Giving to the Kingdom

Is God Calling You to Give?

Remember God doesn’t want your money, He wants you.
Do you know God personally?

Why is it that most people are not experiencing the joy of giving?

God owns it all

The Whole Earth
"The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;" (Psalms 24:1).

He Created Us
“Jesus Christ created us (Colossians 1:16). He bought us with His precious blood (1 Peter 1:18,19). And God anointed Him as our Lord (Ephesians 1:20-23; Acts 10:36; Romans 10:12). Thus, the whole of our life - our personality, influence, material substance, everything - is His, even our success.” (by Dr. Bill Bright, Ten Basic Steps, Lesson 1:God’s Ownership Over All)

The second point explains some problems we have with money.

Money won’t completely satisfy

Listen to Solomon’s words on money
"Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless. As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owner except to feast his eyes on them?" Ecclesiastes 5:10-11)

Money can also move us away from our faith
"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." (1 Timothy 6:10)

How can or should we handle our finances?

God allows us to store up treasures in heaven

Treasures in Heaven
"But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also". (Matthew 6:20-21).

We are Blessed as we give
"… remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” (Acts 20:35).

It is not enough just to know these three points...

How do I start?

Tithing (giving 10%) is just the beginning
The tithe is God’s historical way of helping you learn to give to His work. It can help us develop a habit of joyful giving. Remember that tithing is a good starting point as we learn to give back to God. In addition to the tithe the Bible talks about giving a freewill offering.

As we trust God with our finances, we can learn the joys of giving well beyond the minimum of a tithe.

What should I give to?
Start by giving to your local church congregation in which you're already involved. “Those who are taught the word of God should help their teachers by paying them.” (Galatians 6:6 NLT) After that you can consider supporting other ministries that are effectively reaching and discipling others.

Is God calling you to start giving?

Will you become a more generous giver?

Why are we given wealth?
"You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God." (2 Corinthians 9:11)

Challenge others to give
"Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share." (1 Timothy 6:17-18)

Do you need to commit your finances to God and become a generous giver?

Your commitment

God knows your heart and is not so concerned with your words as He is with the attitude of your heart. The following is a suggested prayer:

"Lord I acknowledge that You own it all. I commit to give my financial resources back to you. I realize a tithe is a starting point. I commit to give to my local church, to worthy missions, and Para Church organizations. Help me also not to forget the poor and others in need. Let me be a champion of giving and challenge others to also give of their financial resources"

Does this prayer express the desire of your heart? If it does, I invite you to pray this prayer right now to trust God with your finances
